The Irish Arts Center congratulates longtime instructor Bill Ochs on the twentieth
anniversary of the publication of his book, The Clarke Tin Whistle, one of the most popular instruction books ever written for the instrument. Bill has taught tin whistle here for more than thirty-five years.
Published by The Pennywhistler’s Press, the book, which is accompanied by a 74-minute instructional CD, has gone through four editions and twenty-one printings, with over a quarter of a million copies in print.
Originally written as a tribute to the venerable Clarke tin whistle, the book has taken on a life of its own as a generic tin whistle tutor. “I was fascinated that the Clarke tin whistle had been in continuous production since 1843 and wanted to celebrate that,” said
Ochs. “But as the book made its way out into the world, players of other brands of tin whistles discovered that the book is an excellent method for learning the tin whistle in general.”
